Robertson injured against N Ireland ahead of Liverpool's title run-in

Liverpool FC on Sky Sports - Tue, 03/26/2024 - 20:29

Andy Robertson was forced off with an ankle injury during Scotland's friendly with Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

The Liverpool left-back, who missed 18 domestic matches across all competitions earlier this season due to a shoulder injury, was taken off in the first half of his side's defeat at Hampden Park.

Robertson tried to play on after twisting his ankle but had to come off five minutes after his club-mate Conor Bradley scored what proved to be the winner with his first senior international goal.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke hopes this is not another long-term problem for his captain just 11 weeks out from the Euros.

"He's just come off the pitch, let the injury take its course," said Clarke. "He'll go back to his club and they'll assess it and hopefully it's not too serious."

Reporting from Hampden Park, Sky Sports' Mark Benstead: "A huge worry for Steve Clarke and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp - as Andy Robertson is forced off.

"A hefty challenge by Trai Hume left him clutching his left ankle - he tried to carry on but couldn't.

"That could be massive ahead of the Euros and in the Premier League title race."
